Indy Band Review: American Bombshell, Rok Hollywood, Glamerica - Southport Bar & Grill - 1/2/16

American Bombshell
Genre: Original Rock
Hometown: Indianapolis

It's a different kind of night when I blog three bands, but also when I blog a band with original songs, as this is not common in Indy. I believe there is a market for it, and with websites like 'Reverbnation', it makes following these types of bands possible.  That being said, if you are not familiar with the tunes, it is more of a challenge, as least for me as a blogger. *grin* These dudes are heavy, badass rock and roll...you either rock it or you don't, you either like it or you don't.

Founded in 2010, and together as a band for a year, they are currently ranked #18 on 'Reverbnation', a link which you can access from their website: http://www.americanbombshell.band/. You can also follow them on their Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/AmericanBombshell/timeline) to check out videos, photos and more. They are quite the social medialites...accessible through 'Twitter' - @ab_bombshell, 'Instagram' - ab_bombsquad and 'Sound Cloud' - americanbombshell.

The night opened with AB rocking out to a standing room only crowd on the south side of Indy. With musical influences from Bang Tango, Buckcherry, Guns n' Roses, Bulletboys, Great White, Tesla and others, it is audibly evident, yet AB's style and presentation are unique. 'My Drug', 'No Regrets', 'So Broken', 'Hole In My Head', 'Another Dead Rockstar', and several others tunes rounded out the list.

American Bombshell is:

Jay Cee - Vocals
Steve Boyles - Guitar
Andrew "Nix" Nixon - Guitar
Dustin Green -Bass
Jason Carr - Drums and Cowbell

It was definitely a rockin' start to the new year...and to quote from the band's Facebook page, 'rock 'n roll the way it was meant to be played!!' So folks, that's it in a nutshell...or rather, a 'Bombshell'...American Bombshell.

Rok Hollywood
Genre: Original Rock
Hometown: Indianapolis

So, not only was I hearing double original bands, I was seeing double as well last night, and I was just drinking water...ha! *grin* I must have been up for the challenge! Round two for the night.  I think I can safely say you will be seeing a little more of RH in 2016 locally? Time will tell. In the interim, the 'Rok' continued further into the evening. This is a band to follow and also, they have a following, not just locally, but in areas across the U.S.  If you are a lover of musical originality, be sure to like their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/RokHollywood/?fref=ts, and check out some of their tunes on Reverbnation: https://www.reverbnation.com/darenanddavidshort, a current ranking of #1 and #2 for these local boys! Yay!

A sampling of the line-up included: 'Call On Me', 'Are You Ready', 'Piece of Me', 'Deep Inside' and 'My Kind of Woman', plus many others. So, if you were a part of the action, you can certainly say, 'I came, I heard, I 'rok'd'...Hollywood style.  Rok on guys!

Josh Johnson - vocals
Duane Connaughton - bass guitar
David Short - guitar
Daren Short - drums

GLAMerica
Genre: 80's hair/glam metal cover
Hometown: Indianapolis

Love me some GLAMerica, because I'm an 80's lady at heart! These guys, and gal are an outstanding tribute for this era! With a playlist that truly brings back the memories of this, my fave period of rock music. Really, you just cannot go wrong rocking this way.  So many of my friends today were a part of this unparalleled time in rock history, and I believe perhaps the reason we still embrace it today is because of how it was so much a part of our lives, and the great memories it revives.

Since I am so familiar with this genre, all I need to is jot down the song titles in my notebook, and I'm ready to blog! Whew...my mind kind of needed a rest by this time! *grin* I could see GLAMerica over and over and never tire of their performance.  There are so many great bands/songs to pick from.  Tonight's list included: 'Still Of The Night' (Whitesnake), 'Live Wire' (Motley Crue), 'Jump' (Van Halen), 'Sweet Child O' Mine (Guns N' Roses), 'Love Is A Battlefield' (Pat Benatar), 'Separate Ways' (Journey), 'Rock You Like A Hurricane' (Scorpions), 'Nothin' But A Good Time' (Poison), 'Pour Some Sugar On Me' (Def Leppard), 'Too Much Time On My Hands' (Styx), 'Hot For Teacher' (Van Halen), and 'Bark At The Moon' (Ozzy Osbourne), with an encore of 'Paradise City' (Guns N' Roses), 'The Warrior' (Patty Smyth) and 'Welcome To The Jungle' (Guns N' Roses)

GLAMerica is:

Kip Cain
Tiffany Kitaen
Blaze E. Lee
Fret Michaels
Alex Van Peart
Jani Rose

Love the stage names, don't you? *smile* When you're lookin' for an 80's fix, and nothin' but a good rockin' time, GLAMerica will not disappoint! Like their FaceBook page: https://www.facebook.com/Glamericaband/timeline?ref=page_internal, and mark them on your 'must see' list for 2016!
