What do you get when you mix Indy's musicians with a breast cancer benefit? Bands 4 Boobies! B4B...great fun for a great cause! Radio Radio in Fountain Square provided the venue for this show, and despite the inclement weather, the turn out was sizable, as it was standing room only.  There were numerous goodies given away through a raffle, and four different bands donated their talents, entertaining the crowd throughout the night with a variety of musical artistry.

Starting off the evening was singer/songwriter Chris Wolf.  His acoustic guitar, singing and story-telling repertoire was unique, although outside of my realm of expertise to completely blog about.  However, it was an enjoyable experience, setting the stage so to speak for the rest of the show. You can learn more about him through his website at: http://chriswolfsongs.com.  Also, 'like' his Facebook page at: https://www.facebook.com/thechriswolf?fref=ts

Most of you know, I am partial to seeing ladies take the stage. In their 45-minute set, Curve Appeal performed original music along with cover tunes from the Eagles (Witchy Woman), Journey (Lights) and Marc Cohn (Walking In Memphis).

Curve appeal is:

Tracy Ditsworth - lead vocals
Amy Sikir - piano, back-up vocals
Sheila Walters Herring - ukulele, percussion, harmonica
and back-up vocals
Lia Treffman - bass, percussion, back-up vocals
Pattie Gregoty - saxophone, percussion, back-up vocals

As I have said before, it is a challenge for me to blog on bands that have original music, especially when I am seeing them for the first time and I'm not familiar with their songs.  I like this band's sound, and would love to see a full show.  The female vocalist, Arianah can certainly rock it! (love those front-ladies!) Although 'original', the band did perform one cover during their set, Tom Petty's 'Breakdown', and ended with one of their own, 'I Can't Find My Way Home', a bluesy sort of tune that truly rocks!

B of N are:

Mark Anthony
Arianah Brown
Jeff Derby
Chris McCombs
Jesse Roe

As Ms. Brown stated, 'It's all about love and rock'.  Join in their 'gypsy journey' and enjoy some original tunes along the way.

These guys have come into my blog scope twice already...great cover band!  If you have opportunity, see them play.  I do not think you will be disappointed, as you will hear a variety of music.  The last performers for the evening, AH rocked the house with 'A Flock of Seagulls', 'Billy Idol', 'Ramones', 'J. Geils Band', 'Devo', 'Metallica' and several others.  They are easily addictable! (is that a word?)

AH is:

Alex Torres - vocals
Marc Kiefer - lead guitar
Dave Conn - rhythm guitar
Jason Oldham - bass guitar
Danny Taylor - drums

The focus of the event was to support and raise awareness for breast cancer, specifically on the local level.  Pink Ribbon Connection (PRC) is involved with this endeavor. (http://pinkribbonconnection.org).  Their mission is 'to provide emotional support, local resources and education to those touched by cancer across Indiana.'  Many women, especially those who are low income and dealing with breast cancer can obtain wigs, bras and scarves at no charge from this organization, so it is certainly a worthy cause to donate to and a beacon of hope for those battling this disease.

Bands 4 Boobies goal is to raise $6,000 this year for PRC, thus far mid-way to reaching that. B4B is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, which means all donations are tax deductible...just ask for a receipt!  100% of what you donate goes to PRC.  There is also an 'Indy Band Challenge'.  If you are a local musician, you can participate and help out...the challenge is to raise at least $100 when you are at a venue playing.  Donations can be sent to: bands4boobies@live.com.  You can also contact Jason Oldham at 317.508.0369 for further information on how to become involved. I think overall, Jason would agree this year and those previous have been a success. $15,000 raised so far in the last four years. There is still plenty of time to help this year and make plans for next year.  Much heartfelt thanks goes out to so many...Radio Radio for use of their premises, all the bands who played and all those who came out to help by donating.  Thank you Jason Oldham for all the time and effort it took to bring it together...that is no small task! Looking forward to the benefit show for 2016! Please support Indy's local musical talent and... rock on! See you next year!
